Future of the Public Transport.
Located in Makumbura near the Kottawa interchange at the connecting point
of the Southern expressway and the Outer circular highway opened to the
public on the 1 st of April 2019.
Sri Lanka’s first Multimodal center was ready for operation. But there were no
experienced staff to operate it. Therefore, a pilot operation period was planned,
and the ministry decided to assign the task to the project team.
At the time of opening, it was serving Six Bus (routes) destinations and
providing the railway services along the Kelani Valley line.
Makumbura Multimodal Center Kottawa (MMC-K) developed by the Township
Development Component (3K) of the Greater Colombo Urban Transport
Development Project.
While the infrastructure was developed, Multimodal operation procedures
were developed by a team of International & National consultants.

Combined Transport Facilities
Combined transport is a form of intermodal transport, which is the movement of goods in one and the same loading unit or road vehicle, using successively two or more modes of transport without handling the goods themselves in changing modes. Combined transport is intermodal transport where the major part of the journey is by rail, inland waterways or sea, and any initial and/or final legs carried out by road are as short as possible

Multimodal Transportation
Makumbura MMC aims become an autonomous Terminal Operator that provide value added services from user-oriented approach and develop related business to being sustainable. In addition, it is noted that the function of smooth transfer and connection with railway (KV Line) services, as well as other access/egress modes (eg: Motorcycles, Bicycle, Taxi, Three wheeler and Walking) Should be provided.
